Germany’s Test & Experiment Environment for AI & Agricultural Robotics
agrifoodTEF-DE is a German research project that acts as a “third-party” node within the larger European agrifoodTEF network. It is focused on creating independent service blueprints to test and validate AI systems and robotic solutions under practical, real-world agricultural conditions. Key areas include synthetic data generation, benchmarking of robotic applications, edge computing, and ensuring legal conformity of AI & robotics in agriculture. One concrete technical activity is the development of process pipelines for botanically accurate 3D plant models, which can be used to generate synthetic images/scenarios to train AI models more efficiently.
Key features
- Real-world validation and benchmarking of robotics and AI systems in agriculture
- Use of synthetic data and 3D plant models for more efficient AI training
- Edge computing approaches for agricultural robotics
- Legal and regulatory compliance frameworks for AI and robotics solutions
- Multidisciplinary research areas including data management, image recognition, deep learning, and autonomous systems
